北威背誦比賽
NWCS Speech (Recitation) Contest
本學期背誦比賽將於二○○五年十二月十七日上午九點三十至十一點三十分在二二○教室舉行。 比賽及評分標準共分三組：低年級組(一到四年級)， 中年級組(五到七年級)， 高年級組(八到十一年級。 題目及背頌內容：按年級程度的不同，老師會將題材通知各班。 評分標準：發音 - 40%，表達能力 - 40%，背誦能力 - 20%。 比賽成績前三名者將發給獎狀及獎座， 其他則發給參加獎。 歡迎全班參加比賽。
Our school-wide academic contest will be held on 12/17/05 at 9:30 - 11:30 in Room 220. Students will be grouped into three levels: Level I (Grades 1-4), Level II (Grades 5-7) and Level III (Grades 8-11). Students will be provided a small selection of articles from which to choose, to memorize and orally present to a live audience, including judges composed of faculty and docent members. Articles, which will vary in subject and content by grade level, will be distributed by classroom teachers. The criteria include Pronunciation (40%), Intonation/Expression (40%), and Memorization/Accuracy (20%). There will be three winners in each level. Placement Certificates and prizes will be awarded at a later date. All students are urged to take part!

School Anniversary / New Year Party
請家長們與老師們開始準備校慶及新年晚會 (01/21/06) 的表演節目， 這是一個讓小朋友， 大朋友用中文展現才藝及同樂的機會， 董事會將選出最優團體， 代表北威在美東中文學校年會表演。
Parents, please start working with your teachers on the performance for the show at the School Anniversary Celebration. This is a fun event for all - kids, young and old, will get a chance to show off their talent at using Chinese. The Board of Directors will choose the best group to represent NWCS and perform at the annual meeting of the Association of Chinese Schools Eastern Region. Please mark your calendar for this special day, 01/21/06.

座談會公告
Pediatric Acupressure Seminar
我們很榮幸請到執業針灸醫師關秉慧來本校作三場有關幼兒指壓的演講， 關醫師精通中文， 英文及廣東話。 演講主題包括：指壓介紹， 和指壓在免疫， 消化系統， 便祕， 呼吸， 睡眠方面的強化功用， 同時也包括一些成人有興趣的消減壓力及睡眠等問題。 第一場演講訂於十二月三日上午九點半至十點半， 地點是220教室。 歡迎踴躍參加。
We are honored to have invited Dr. Binghui Guan (關秉慧), a licensed acupuncturist, to come to our school to give 3 seminars on Pediatric Acupressure. Dr. Guan is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. Topics of discussion will include: General introduction to Acupressure, Enhancement to the Immune System and the Digestive System in children, specific illnesses common in children such as constipation, colds, agitation, respiratory and sleeping problems. A few adult health issues will also be covered such as stress reduction and eye-care. A Q&A session will also be conducted for special interests. The first seminar is scheduled for 9:30 - 10:30 in Room 220 on 12/3/05. Please join us in this informative session.

家長大會已經于十一月十九日投票確認鄭天人先生為本年度的校長。
During the General Meeting held on 11/19/05, Mr. Tien-Jen Cheng was officially confirmed as the principal for this school year.

The school often uses e-mail to contact parents for urgent matters. However, we do not have e-mail addresses for all parents. Please be sure to provide your current e-mail address to Ms Shiauping Shih at the office.
停課通知
Inclement Weather Notification
如果學校因為下雪而決定停課， 學校將會透過家長聯絡網及教師聯絡網通知大家。 停課通知也會在本校網站刊登， 以及收音機電臺 WHUD 100.7 FM 廣播。
In the event of school closings due to inclement weather, parents will be notified via the parent communication network and the teachers via the teacher communication network. Closing announcements will also be posted on the school website and at the WHUD 100.7 FM Storm Center.
耶誕節募款活動
Holiday Fundraiser
耶誕佳節即將來臨。 本校將于十二月十日及十七日在餐廳舉辦募款活動。 募款活動的內容是銷售耶誕禮品。 我們需要大家捐贈家裏沒有用過的物品或是多餘的禮品。 請將這些禮品于十二月十日及十七日帶到學校餐廳。 禮品銷售將于十點到十二點舉行。 禮品定價保證物美價廉。 所有銷售的款項將捐贈給學校。 請大家多多支持這項募款活動。
The Holiday Season is coming. NWCS is conducting a holiday fundraising sale event in the cafeteria on 12/10/05 and 12/17/05 from 10:00 to 12:00. Imagine this - holiday shopping with gifts priced below retail value, and without traffic or long lines! And all the proceeds will benefit the school.
How will it work? NWCS is looking for donations of NEW, unwrapped gifts (e.g. gifts from your closets or storage that you would love to give away.) Gifts related to Chinese culture are especially appreciated. Bring your new, unwrapped gifts to the cafeteria from 9:00-9:45 on Dec. 10th and Dec. 17th. Then return at 10:00 and shop till you drop.

您現在可以購買存放在CD上的班級團體照片。 有意者請到學校餐廳購買。 一張CD三元， 兩張五元， 三張六元。
The class pictures (on CD) are now available for sale. Please come to the cafeteria to purchase them. The price is $3 for one CD, $5 for 2, and $6 for 3.

Volunteers Needed
學校近期將有多項活動需要多位人才投入。 這些活動包括新年晚會及編輯本年度記念冊。 如果您有興趣參與晚會活動設計， 文書編輯或美工， 請向鄭校長或副校長尚業敏報名。 高年級的同學也歡迎報名。
We need parents to participate in the various school functions, such as the New Year's Party and editing the yearbook. If you are interested in any of these activities, please contact the principal or vice principal. Older students are also encouraged to volunteer.
